DZ WEEKEND!!!
#1
Time for a major change of pace with the new year!

We're going to have a DZ Weekend in Chaos! Dueling Zone settings -- no reps, 1 mine, etc. etc.

Some will rejoice

Some will cry

Some will kill

And many will die

Enjoy!

Back to the zone I started in but was too drunk to remember not only playing in, but even what my original alias was.

Hey Hallu will it be in the main zone? I recommend main zone <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Always the most players <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Thanks for having MOC! and curse the engine shutdown!! when i returned from background screen! I thought that setting was gone!! It cost me <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Plus is it possible to have a !KING command to start a king of the ring game pERhaps with a decent reward? I would be fine if it cost BONUS's to run. Even a !skill or !speed game would be nice to get a reward in points.

Have fun.

Yes, main zone (announcements like this are always for Chaos -- an event should be labeled as such).

Thx for pointing out the inconsistency in the moc settings -- I've changed it to zero delay on alt-tab like Chaos. Almost all settings in MoC arena should match Chaos.

Let me think about !king... maybe a reward of some kind for some other achievement.

Not in reset points though. Reset points need to be purely for kills, because that's what those points are all about. Maybe a separate points set for KOTH similar to how flag points are treated.

Seems most people are having fun in the DZA settings <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

One mine is the classic duel settings <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

You will beg me to rep you soon enough <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

REPS KILL

Long LIve CHAOS!

Notice that the 4man team limit is a good flow <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

and the 2:30 hour safezone ! Keep both when revert back to ChAOS settings

After a brief disliking of the settings the first day, even though I started off in there years and years ago, I warmed up to the DZ settings when the enjoyment of getting in and not having to green to be competitive was realized. The only issue that was fairly evident was the ability to dominate a zone with a team of four holding the flag while only seven people were playing. 4v1v1v1 with one player having L4 bullets was a bit much.

I thought the event was pretty successful all in all. The population was steady even with some recognizable CZ names never showing up (Gad, Skiz, and Cammi come to mind). It would be nice to see DZ settings become a common event - perhaps every or every other weekend? It's hard to say whether or not the enjoyment of DZ was only due to the fact that it was a change or because of the settings/map themselves. At any rate, I think the majority of responses in game and in here seemed to be of positive nature, so perhaps another event isn't too far off. Personally, I'd enjoy playing there again.

I'd even suggest a more permanent switch (perhaps two or three weeks) to see how the player retention stands up to something other than an event. A slightly intoxicated recollection leads me to believe at one point on Saturday evening there were five teams of four and two teams of three in game playing, along with the stragglers that were on a team of one. More than 30 in game - that's not too shabby.

i have to say, ive never been so eager to enter the zone and unspec on chaos pub before, i think DZ was the best thing since along time on chaos pub. id like to see more of it.. perhaps maybe even add the CZ map with the DZ settings (and if possible the league WB, since no one uses DZ afterburners)

Absolutely loved it. Lack of reps was brilliant. Missed rockets but meh, just had to develop patience and reach for a drink /answer phone / whatever with a finger still on the up arrow.

Had the choice of general stupidity in the centre "circle" or something a lot more honest and accountable outside it. Plenty of lame stuff still so nobody really missed out. Sitting in the circle attempting to lure safe huggers out was a lot of (expensive) fun.

And yes, there seemed to be one day when there was a huge number of people playing, definitely over 30. The (bastardised) numbers on the GUI said something massive. People flocked to play these settings, or at least for the quaintness, or for the party in general.

The dueling boxes themselves only got a bit of use, but people did have a look at them.

But, it's not technically true to Chaos Zone. So it couldn't be full-time, or it just wouldn't be ... Chaos Zone.

One full reset of it would be fun though, maybe not for a while, but someday.

Not everybody was impressed (though in most cases they seemed ok with the settings, but just annoyed with the map layout). Vast majority seemed to be having a great time.

For now, it might be fun to explore some of the other zones that were merged into Chaos : Speed and JP, for instance. Which is where Jenn's thread kicks in.

The DZA arena is always here as a subarena (?go dza1) though there's no bots.

EDIT: Hallu what were the numbers? Was it officially a good turnout? Also which way did feedback lean?

Since Chaos-Bot had to be down (so dynamic freqsizes, greens, etc weren't goofing up the DZ settings), I don't have the precise population stats I usually have. Plutorus and I were taking notes, and what I saw was a peak of about 26-28 people on Saturday night which was pretty good. Last night (Tuesday) we had 26, which is good for a Tues, so that could be the carryover effect we hope to get from events to regular Chaos play. Overall, I'd say that population was consistently a little higher than average during the time it was in, but that is the expectation when settings are in for a short time and they are old favorite settings -- DZ has certainly been one of the most requested old SVS settings to make an appearance. And true to that, there were a lot of happy vets and a number of names we hadn't seen for a while <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

Historically though, it was close to the average, decent weekend for the zone during the school year (summer is lower population, plus the population fluctuates quite a bit anyway) -- e.g. overall the week of Nov 30th was quite similar with a peak pop of 26. I'm glad people enjoyed it, and that hopefully we'll get more of those less frequent vistors stopping in during regular Chaos play.

DZ has always available in ?go dz

so anytime people would like, get a dueling thing going there <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Chaos of course has Speed at any players request 24/7. And Jackpot also runs continuously -- but _not_ with the extremely difficult JP settings (e.g. 0 bty start). We did that a long time ago to try and keep these classic SVS games alive and active in some form.

And let me add this -- even though the population wasn't much different than typical, I think that many of the players were more excited than usual due to having DZ settings and map live again, but also just because of change/something different. I felt like things were a little more lively over the weekend, as has been the case with each of the 'guest appearances' by other SVS settings/map. Good stuff imo. What do you think?

As a follow up, this weekend saw the highest Chaos populations for January going several years back -- max of 34 last night w/multiple turrets, hunt freqs etc. Over the weekend, the pop hit the mid 20s a bunch of times (more frequently than usual I think). I speculate that this is partially due to the successful DZ event and the energy it created.

Don't get me wrong, I liked DZ weekend.. but I think the biggest factor on pubs higher pop right now is the fact that league hasn't started. Get those numbers when league is in session and I'll be impressed. <3
