Rotating "merged zone" weekends?
#1
I was wondering, since there's so many merged zones in Chaos, if we could have a set rotation for having them up as pub map? Even if it's just for a day. Having a set date to expect things to rotate through would only bring more players. I think WZ and MoC proves this theory. Might be a lot of work, but I think it would please the majority of people. Just need to figure out a way to not disrupt Chaos as a whole. I don't want to "kill" the zone, just bring back the ones that "merged." Any thoughts and advice are welcome.

Great idea Jenn. Since chaos holds all the merged and other dead SVS zones.. it would be nice to see them back possibly as events or like the successful alpha and DZ weekend pub maps hallu has organized. As you mention, doing so with the least disruption to regular chaos is the tricky part! <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Perhaps a weekend or 1 day pub map after every Reset - 2 times per month?? Not too much disruption... you could even have a mini-Reset within the event - the winner getting bounty or some other reward back in chaos pub on the switchover! Alpha, DZ, Speed, Jackpot, ASWZ, even the PRO map/settings as pub for a day or weekend would be fun to try.

Having a Short time frame: 1 or 2 days at most, "limits damage" for ppl who hate the settings while allowing others to experience and enjoy new or long forgotten SVS styles. Being well advertised and having a "set schedule" as u mention, Jenn is important too... I would volunteer my time to helping with any DZ or Speed events/maps!

Having set and scheduled EVENTS (as opposed to weekend pub map changes) would be nice too... but possibly need more time/effort. I've always felt having a Zombie event IN the chaos pub map would be huge... players could OPT OUT to having any kills, etc affect their points/standings.

anyway.. nice idea Jenn, and also thanks to Hallu for keeping SVS alive and fun!

Another long standing idea -- have the bot change settings/maps etc at prescribed times. I'm bringing this up now since it goes along with the 'change greens' thread -- it is a way to test new settings for a fixed amount of time and has other benefits. I want input on parameters for the bot. Here's what I've got so far:

date (one shot) or repeating days (e.g. every other saturday) == 2001.03.21 | sat2 (question is which sat is 'every other' -- every sat is easier)

time == 24 hr clock

cmd == putfile | setlevel | zone

cmd param = string (filename or string to spam)

announcement string (string to spam at change time e.g. "SVS settings in!")

stats = on | off (if Reset Winner stats should be turned on/off at this time)

Can you think of other applications of things that could be done based on a predetermined schedule?

For control, I'd like to hook this up to the forums as the hallucitron is

Unfortunately, the logistics are a bit complex to implement (code must be migrated from chaos-bot to scores-bot for one thing), but it remains towards the top of my "list" -- things not included in the above list are:

--bonuses on/off (including earning of bonuses)

--dynamic freqsizes on/off

--dynamic greens on/off

--dynamic flags on/off

--ranks on/off

etc.

Map changes are more disruptive than settings changes in general (due to the recycle of the zone if nothing else). These types of changes, even when temporary, elicit a wild variety of "opinions" shall we say :)

Events can be a great tool to bring more people into the zone, but it's not a slapdash affair. I'll talk to you in the zone mr silly about that. I've long had an ad in the .staff command: Help Wanted: Graphics Designer, Events Design, Events Hosting, Zone Promotion, Marketing -- all of which go into making great new events that will draw ppl in. It's a great opportunity for creative folk to experiment, and help Chaos and SVS. I put out the call again for applicants to these positions.

More ideas/specifics?
