Make pracs interesting again |

First of all I'm not a coder and can't make bots so this is just a spurt of ideas on how we could make everyday pracs more fun assuming we have someone who can change the bots or make new ones. Pracs nowadays are only really interesting when you are playing squad vs squad and some of these ideas can even help certain players understand how to play the game properly.
These games could all be played within the same basic setup as a normal 4v4 game with the same ship settings. Possibly same bot with just different game modes that you can chose/vote on before the prac starts. Also, the bot should allow players to just get in line and be assigned randomly to a team to minimize the possibility of stacking.
Protect the king
- At the start of the game one player on each team is announced to everyone as "The King".
- Both teams goal is to kill the king three times to win the game.
Hunt down the gimp (if gimp is offensive to someone we can call it the cunt)
- At the start one player on each team secretly becomes "The Gimp" which is announced only to that player, which he of course can tell his team.
- The other teams goal is to find and kill him and when he is dead another player on the same team becomes the gimp.
- Kill the gimp three times to win the game.
All ships (this has been used somewhere, forgot where)
- At the start of a game everyone starts in a warbird. When you die you get a jav, etc until you are in the shark. The first team to kill any shark wins.
Assassination
- Starts out as a normal prac. At intervals one player on each team becomes the target which is announced to everyone. The team that kills the other target first gets a point. First to 3,5,10? points wins.
Point based game
Not sure how some of this would be possible but it's an idea. Make a points based game instead of a set number of lives per player. You get points for certain basic goals. For example:
- Forcing a rep, 5 points
- Killing someone, 10 points
- Killing someone who still has reps, 20 points
- Teamkill, -15 points
- etc.
This can then be combined into combos. For example:
- Bonus multiplier (* 1.2) for every team member who does damage related to a kill.
- Two kills within a certain time range, * 1.5 for each kill (Bot announce: DOUBLE KILL!).
- Three kills within a certain time range, * 2.0 for each kill (Bot announce: MULTI KILL!).
- Four kills within a certain time range, you automatically win the game. (Bot announce: GOD LIKE!)
- Get everyone on the other team down to 0 reps before scoring a kill, the next kill then scores * 3.
- etc.
Rewards could also be added, example:
- A player who alone scores a double kill, is rewarded with super/shields for 60 seconds. (Bot announce: RAMPAGE!)
- For every three reps you force alone, you get rewarded with an extra rep.
- etc.
First team to a fixed number of points (100?) wins.
Thoughts, other ideas? The point is like I said to get rid of the tediousness of normal random pracs, while still allowing players to work and better themselves in different aspects of 4v4 games. These are just off the top of my head and needs to be tweaked and tested of course and like I said some of it might not even be possible. If anyone with some bot coding skills wants to proceed with this or something similar I will gladly help out in any way I can.

Reform The Zone (rewrite the bots, move to ASSS, etc) |

But any time I've popped in there in the past little while to see what's going on (during the 30 seconds I can stay connected before it boots me for resolution) the zone has seemed fairly dead. A pub going on, sure, and maybe javs, but that's it.
With that said, consolidation is probably the only way the game will survive another few years, but every zone needs to first get on ASSS instead of continuing to use severely outdated and limited server software.
After that's done, continuum could essentially be one game world, with tons of different arenas all operating independently.
I agree. However, this won't ever happen. People in "power" sitting in their command centers (mothers basements) don't want to step aside.
Countless times this has been tried. I don't see hallu, passplay, simonsays, and/or ghost ship knuckling under, sorry.
A few of us 2 years ago funded the bot coding and development for new pro bots, had another zone ready to go (ASSS server), new maps, adjusted settings, a dedicated server, etc. Shot down. Dueling was automated - it was pretty sick. If anyone wants the entire story and the dealings with "management", as it were, talk to Devious. Your head will spin.
To quote a fantastic low budget movie Cube which seems fitting:
"This may be hard for you to understand, but there is no conspiracy. Nobody is in charge. It, it's a headless blunder operating under the illusion of a master plan. Can you grasp that? Big Brother is not watching you."
That is the best description of Subspace "management" I can think of.
The sad fact is the game will die. Enjoy what seasons we have left.
Feel free to try.

1 Assassins 12-1 91 0.47
2 OUTLAWS 12-1 92 0.465
^---- BYE into semis, Assassins get to pick the match-up they want their opponents from ---^
3 The Dark 10-3 69 0.47 (def. Sterling 11-8)
4 sterling 10-3 53 0.47
5 Critical Mass 9-4 56 0.493
6 Cosmic Rift 8-5 25 0.493
^---- PRO ----^
7 Backarrow 8-5 47 0.493 (12-0 over WTF?, lost vs. Cosmic Rift 7-6) BYE into AML semis.
8 Llamas 7-6 38 0.465 BYE
9 Symphony 5-8 -19 0.446 BYE
10 StarFire Elite 4-9 -39 0.465
11 Dropships 3-10 -55 0.493
^---- AML ----^
12 WTF? 1-6 -51 0.581
13 Slopships 1-7 -67 0.443
14 BYE Round 0-20 -240 0.53
The above standings were only adjusted for the bits that matter like Backarrow's 1 missing win and their result vs. Cosmic Rift. Assassins' K/D should be correct as well, so what you see here would be the K/D that eventually goes on A1.
PRO:
#3 vs. #6 in pro
The Dark vs. Cosmic Rift (best of 3, game 1)
#4 vs. #5 in pro
Sterling vs. Critical Mass (best of 3, game 1)
Assassins get to choose which match-up they want their opponents from, Outlaws get the other option. Default: Sterling vs. Critical Mass
AML:
StarFire Elite vs. Dropships (best of 3, game 1)
Backarrow either plays the winner of that match-up in semis or picks Symphony/Llamas.
3pm:
StarFire Elite vs. Dropships -- 1294311
4pm:
The Dark vs. Cosmic Rift -- 1294312
Sterling vs. Critical Mass -- 1294313
All games are game 1 of a best of 3 series.

As a prelude to what I'm about to say, let me first put forward that I like Hallu a Hell of a lot more than I like anyone from Trench Wars. He's been a good and constant friend to our league.
So, that being said, I shall bring forward the inevitable: consolidation. We are dying and stagnant. No one can reasonably deny it.
We are currently a subzone of Chaos. Sadly, Chaos is no more. It is functionally dead, the efforts of Hallu and his staff notwithstanding. So what to do? As they say, "When the Devil drives, needs must."
If it can be arranged, through whatever mean necessary, becoming a subzone of Trench is our best possible chance for survival. We CAN poach their population. It can be done. Hell, Symphony's entire roster is poached from other zones. Clowns, yes, but nothing a baseball bat and some persistence can't fix.
Complications? Tons. We'll probably have to submit to their goddamned res limit, which is really not much of an issue in the era of the resizer, but still. We'll probably surrender some autotonomy. Will you have to tone down your shit talk and racism? Very probably; I expect some of you to be net-banned. Pardon me if I don't weep over that. And lastly, they may see us as a threat, or worse, a non-entity, and not accept us at all. Still, the attempt should, nay, *must* be made.
I'd like to hear Hallu's thoughts on this, as well as his staff. I know full well what I'm asking of you, having run this league myself before.

3pm:
BYE Round - BYE Round
Dropships - Backarrow -- 1293880
The Dark - Sterling -- 1293881
BYE Round - Symphony -- 1293882
4pm:
Assassins - Llamas -- 1293883
Outlaws - Critical Mass -- 1293884
Starfire Elite - Cosmic Rift -- 1293885
Adjusted standings (using play-off tiebreakers and with converted wins, K/D from all the dissolved squads still not in):
1 Assassins 11-1 84 0.465 (def. Outlaws 7-6)
2 OUTLAWS 11-1 90 0.449
^---- BYE into semis ---^
3 sterling 10-2 56 0.455
4 The Dark 9-3 66 0.451 (def. Critical Mass 12-5)
5 Critical Mass 9-3 58 0.469
6 Cosmic Rift 7-5 18 0.503 ( def. Backarrow 7-6, def. Llamas 6-5: Total 2/0 +2)
^---- PRO ----^
7 Backarrow 7-5 53 0.506 (12-0 over WTF?, def. Llamas 12-6, lost vs. CRift 7-6: Total 1/1+5)
8 Llamas 7-5 45 0.44 (lost vs. Backarrow 12-6, lost vs. CRift 6-5: Total 0/2 -7)
9 Symphony 4-8 -31 0.477 (def. SFE 12-6)
10 StarFire Elite 4-8 -32 0.457
11 Dropships 3-9 -48 0.491
^---- AML ----^
12 WTF? 1-6 -51 0.581
13 Slopships 1-7 -67 0.443
14 BYE Round 0-19 -228 0.537
So the top 2 squads will be Assassins and Outlaws. Outlaws can only finish #1 if they win while Assassins lose.
The next 4 squads will be Sterling, The Dark, Critical Mass and one of the 7-5 squads. Llamas can still make PRO if both Backarrow and Cosmic Rift lose.
The squads in the 3-6 range are playing for seedings into quarters:
"Playoff games are best of 1, up to semi-"finals". With 6 squads, the top two teams get a BYE in Pro while #3 plays #6 and #4 plays #5. #1 seed gets to choose which match-up they want their opponents from. Same goes for AML, varied to match in numbers."
EDIT NOTE: That best of 1 quarter-final round will be replaced by GAME 1 of a best-of-3 Quarter-Finals series on the 4th of January.
..hmm.. Also if those games were all played at 3pm we could play the first games of semis at 4. Which means we'd be finished the weekend before superbowl. Not the superbowl weekend or the week after. But that would be rather silly.
