  Pub time
Posted by: Magnus - 10-12-2010, 05:19 PM - Forum: A Small WarZone - Replies (5)

We gotta have a scheduled time for people to check if anyone is in pub just to mess around. It doesn't always have to be a league game. Anywhere between 4-10PM eastern standard works for me. Let's narrow it down to a good hour to be checking for players.

My annual push to revive ASWZ:)
Posted by: K-c-B - 09-09-2010, 10:59 PM - Forum: A Small WarZone - Replies (10)

I have been away from the forum for a long while. I see there is an ASWZ.org. Is ASWZ on its own server now or still a sub-arena?

I'd love to get involved somehow in its resurrection. When I began playing ASWZ I was 15 (began SS at 14) and at 26 years of age I still pine for some flagging action that only this zone brought. I think a part of me will always hope one day this zone will again come alive and have a steady population of 25 or 30.

Is anyone else interested beside me?

Want to play ASWZ again ?
Posted by: TiReX - 03-01-2010, 06:26 PM - Forum: A Small WarZone - Replies (3)

Send me a message to : tirex83@gmail.com

Write me your Subspace Alias and the best times for you to play ASWZ.

The only way to set up games for a small community like us is to communicate efficienly. By sending emails, we will know when we can set up a game and if people will show up.

Im gonna wait until i get enought email to start scheduling games.

Have a good day,

  old ASWZ site
Posted by: darklite - 01-16-2010, 08:27 PM - Forum: A Small WarZone - Replies (5)

Hello,

I used to play ASWZ a long time ago. Great times <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> I just ran into the new http://www.aswz.org site. Are there enough players to play a flagging game now and then? If the timezone differences allow it (I'm in GMT+1), I can try to join.

Back in the time I made a two maps for ASWZ. The second never got finished. I remember making some changes to it a while ago, but it seems these have gotten lost during a Windows reinstall. I do think I uploaded it to a then-current ASWZ site. It might have been aswz.net. Who was running that site? Or does someone else have a copy of the maps that were stored on that site?

Cheers!

  Current Status of Zone?

Hello!

For a while now I have noticed that this zone is always offline. Is this correct?

  Hi. Just to reminisce
Posted by: artanis16d - 07-04-2009, 10:01 PM - Forum: A Small WarZone - Replies (17)

Hi. I was just in bed resting and for a reason I can't remember I started thinking about Subspace/Continuum and how much I used to play (specifically in ASWZ). This was a long time ago, probably like 2000-2002. So anyway I searched on Google and found this place to post. So here I am.

My ID back then was Artanis16 (dunno if anyone will remember). My older brother's ID was Auroa (people are more likely to remember him). I was never in any of the big squads but I was in a couple of smaller squads that did compete in the squad league. But those squads died quickly.

I remember ASWZ being a sub-arena for the bigger Warzone zone and then it eventually became it's own zone. I remember the base in one of the maps was called "combs" and consisted of nine honeycomb shapes put together. I remember attaching. Safe zones. Thor's Hammer, that fireworks burst thing, Repel, Cloaking, Radar, Portals (all I can think of right now). Using macros to send team messages that I'm in their base and everyone should attach to me to get all the flags or that our base needs defending. Warbird (the most basic one), javelin (high health, fast speed, can't turn well), spider (could cloak and had level 3 guns), leviathan (slow, but could shoot level 3 bombs), terrior (had the twin guns), weasel (the emp bombs), lancaster (bouncing bombs), shark (could also cloak I think). And I still know very well the song that plays when a team has all the flags and are winning.

When I played I was around 13-14 years old so yes I'm now in the middle of college. Auroa has been out of college for several years now.

The reason I stopped playing (I think) was because I started playing Starcraft again and eventually Warcraft III. I'm not sure if ASWZ died also, but I think it did. I don't plan on ever playing again (not enough time and I'm playing other games now ^^ ). But yeah. If there are any old-timers here I'd like to hear what you have to say and see if you're still alive.

  Game for Low Population: Attackers/Defenders
Posted by: hawkaloogie - 04-01-2009, 03:58 AM - Forum: A Small WarZone - Replies (5)

Since we need at least 10 people to effectively play a real ASWZ flag game, we need something to play while we have fewer than that many players. So what if we just drilled attackers v. defenders?

The rules I've tentatively come up with go like this

  • Map consists of one ASWZ-style base.
  • Base contains one carryable flag, placed in the flag room (not turf flag).
  • Attackers spawn in the center, near the greens.
  • Defenders spawn in the flag room.
  • To win, Attackers must pick flag and drop it (hold for 60 seconds).
  • To win, Defenders must prevent Attackers from winning for 15 minutes.
  • After game is over, teams are switched and game starts again.
  • Defenders are given 60 seconds to set up before Attackers begin.
  • Map lasts for 60 minutes, then a vote occurs and map changes.

There are some other ideas I've had that I don't know are good or bad
  • What if the map was two bases, when the attackers got through one, they spawned at the end of that base / beginning of base 2. This allows the defenders time to regroup.
  • Freqs are balanced so that if they are not even, only defenders ever have fewer players. To make up for this, defenders get a robot terrier ship to help defend (cannot place too near to the flag).

What I like most about this idea is that it allows us to play ASWZ-style games without needing 10 people. 6 people (3v3) would essentially simulate a 6v6 game (3 attackers, 3 defenders).

What I don't like is the amount of programming that will be involved. I'm not sure I can have something of this magnitude done by this Sunday.

Please comment on this idea and let me know what you think! Additional ideas are always welcome!
